BEST: Edie Falco in Bottega Veneta...love the hair too!
WORST: Lauren Graham in Yigal Azrouel. She still looks beautiful even though the dress is terrible in my opinion.

Home.
In time to catch sunset from a comfy chair.
We had a fabulous time in Oregon, but it's always nice to come home. School starts this week and there's so much to do. I'm inspired to get organized and get back to purging some of my stuff. I have a BIG birthday coming up next month and my dad will be visiting. Lots to look forward to!

The clothesline.
The one, and almost only one, thing that I love about the heat is hanging out the laundry on the line. When it's in the 90s a whole load dries just as fast as in the dryer! A little bit longer for jeans, but not much. And I love the feel of the towels when they've been dried outside.
Below is a poem that I discovered when a customer of mine at Paper Products had made a little book about the clothesline with this poem and needed a way to bind it. I suggested using the mini-clothespins that we had and she loved it. She gave me one of her books as a thank you!

The Clothesline Said So Much
By Marilyn K. Walker
A clothesline was a news forecast
To neighbors passing by.
There were not secrets you could keep
When clothes were hung to dry.
It also was a friendly link,
For neighbors always knew
If company had stopped on by
To spend a night or two.
For then you’d see the fancy sheets
And towels upon the line;
You’d see the company tablecloths
With intricate design.
The line announced a baby’s birth
To folks who lived inside,
As brand new infant clothes were hung
So carefully with pride.
The ages of the children could
So readily be known,
By watching how the sizes changed,
You’d know how much they’d grown.
It also told when illness struck,
As extra sheets were hung,
Then nightclothes and a bathrobe too,
Haphazardly were strung.
It said, “Gone on vacation now,”
When lines hung limp and bare.
It told, “We’re back!” when full lines sagged
With not an inch to spare.
But clotheslines now are of the past,
For dryers make work less,
Now what goes on inside a home
Is anybody’s guess.
I really miss that way of life.
It was a friendly sign,
When neighbors knew each other best,
By what hung on the line!

Messy.
I love that they put a messy table on the cover of the September issue of House Beautiful! It's a great issue with fabulous colors. I'm liking lots of white these days, but it's not practical in my house with the dog. When we bought our IKEA sofa I actually bought the white slipcover along with the blue one. I've never taken the white one out of the bag. Maybe I should just do it and see how bad it gets. What the heck!

Oh Happy Day!
It's looking very much like summer in my garden. The tomotoes aren't quite what they've been in previous years, but a few have ripened already and they were delicious. Zucchinis and strawberries are going crazy. I just planted raspberries this year so not much of a crop there, but they are looking very healthy. Pumpkins are starting to grow...hope it stays warm through September.
