Six months 'til Christmas!

Enjoy your summer!
If you're like me though, I'm already thinking about projects for December. I just seem to have more time to plan and create at this time of year...maybe it's the longer days (and the lack of pressure to finish quickly). It's a Virgo thing!

21 today!

Twenty-one years ago today I became a mother to a wonderful son!

Happy Birthday Stephen!

Shop Hop starts today!

Today is SHOP HOP day. My quilting buddy and friend, Becky, and I will leave the Island at 7 a.m. to get to the first shop by 9:00 when they open. We'll wind our way back to Seattle and try to hit 14 shops in one day. Then we'll only need to hit two more over the next few days to be able to enter the drawing. I'm really looking forward to it!

Wimbledon!

Wimbledon starts today!
Of course it's on ESPN2 at 4 a.m., but I live with a rower and we are up early. And believe it or not, at this time of year (tomorrow is summer solstice) it's even getting light at this hour! Sunrise technically isn't until 5:11, but it looks like we're going to have clear skies today. And for those of you that don't know....my son, who will be 21 this week, was born in Wimbledon during Wimbledon...so it holds a special place in my heart.
Happy Monday!

Happy Friday!

It's the last day of school here on the island! We have a tradition of making chocolate chip pancakes on the first day of school, but Isabel thought we should have them today too. So we did and this one was a total accident...it folded while I was flipping it, but it ended up with these cute little ears. I couldn't help but put a face on him!

Angel.

I'm busy sorting through boxes and getting ready for my garage sale on Saturday. I just came across the box with all the notes and letters from the kids. This first page of a story by Isabel really made me smile, as so many of them did!

Greenhouse dreaming.

Ever since I lived in London and visited Kew Gardens regularly, I've dreamt of having a greenhouse for more than just plants. This one is on a farm in Pennsylvania (via the NYTimes). I can just picture myself having my morning tea out here.

Just difficult.

Some decisions are just plain difficult.

A card with photo taken by my friend Ardel.

oops.

Is this what they mean by painting yourself into a corner? Work continues on Winslow Way, downtown Bainbridge Island. We're all really hoping they get done by the 4th of July so we can have our parade! Don't forget to support our downtown businesses...they are suffering in more ways than one through this construction.
Happy Monday everyone! I'm working hard this week getting ready for a garage sale on Saturday. Hope you locals can come by.....details to follow.

Nothing like a gorgeous day and hanging out laundry on the line...this is at my neighbor's house.

Pink cupboard.

I would love this in my kitchen or bedroom (can't you just see it filled with quilts?!).

This is the last of the magazine clippings (for now).

Rituals.

This one's from Metropolitan Home, Dec. 1987! I still love it, especially the gorgeous double (some triple) exposed photos. It's interesting too the way they're talking about slowing life down and it was written before cell phones and email and facebook and blogging!

Wooden Boats.

Bainbridge Island held it's first ever wooden boat festival this weekend. I'm not really a boat person, but I had some friends that helped plan the event so I went down to support it. I was impressed...the beauty, but mostly the age of these boats that were in pristine condition! And I love portholes!

Cottage flowers.

I think this one must have come from the now defunct Cottage Living.

I l-o-v-e ranunculus! Happy Monday!

Fruit.

I tore these pages out years ago. The lemons are from a MSL and I'm not sure about the kiwi, but the photographer was David Newton. If I had more wall space I'd have them framed.

Really?

One too many trips to the plastic surgeon!

What were these women thinking?

Philip Johnson.

I'm sorting through my magazines and trying to purge a few. I'll be sharing some of my favorite images over the next few days.
This one is from House & Garden March 1999. Architect Philip Johnson designed many buildings including one in my my home town when I was in high school. He continued to work well into his 90's and lived to be 99 (July 1906-January 2005). This is the dog house he designed for his own dogs....where they ended up just storing their bones. I love it!

Watson Kennedy.

Guess who has started a blog? Ted Kennedy Watson from my favorite Seattle shop, Watson Kennedy! You can find it here. I think it's going to be one to follow.

My friend Meagan over at A Serene Scene took some great photos last year when we visited his shop. If you're in Seattle, it's a must! It's on First Avenue, not far from the Bainbridge ferry.
